The issue of child sexual abuse is massive in scale and the charity and social orgs that look to deal with it our miniscule.
The media often reports cases of stranger danger, and child abduction and rape, and more recently celebrity abusers. Sadly these cases only account to 10% of all child sexual abuse. 90% of child sexual abuse is carried out by family, or by someone known by the family, and this is what we call “silent abuse”
What will the SPEAK UP helpline be
We would like to tackle the area of “silent abuse.” Silent abuse is the 90% of abuse which is the most difficult to prevent. Our helpline will be a completely anonymous helpline (whistle blowing) line for family, friends, neighbours or anyone who suspects abuse to inform us. We are currently scoping the helpline and plan to launch in 2018.
